Castell de Castells - Petracos circular walk

Level : Moderate

Distance : 9.2 km

Duration : 2:58 h

Ascent : 337 m

Descent : 337 m

Highest point : 748 m

Lowest point : 453 m

Start at the small parking lot opposite the entrance to the Petracos Cave and Murals. If the parking lot is full, there is a second parking space a little further on.

Very nice walk where we first view the beautiful murals, of course take a look in the cave and then continue the walk, including along the font espelda. It is a succession of beautiful views. If you walk in the spring, it is unbelievable what beautiful flowers can be seen on the slopes and along the hiking trails.

The route partly goes over easily accessible wide sand and concrete paths, but the part to the murals and the first (also last part) of the walk goes over narrow goat paths.

Albir walk to the lighthouse.

The lighthouse is located in the Sierra Helada Natural Park. You park the car in the parking lot at the Cami Vell del Far. Parking is free and so is access to the Camino del Faro. The walk to the lighthouse takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Note: Before you leave… There is no toilet or shop along the way or at the lighthouse. When you go for a walk with children, take tissues with you and plenty of water! In addition, a cap and sunglasses are highly recommended in sunny weather.

Camino del Faro, the lighthouse street

This means 'The lighthouse street'. The path to the lighthouse, which was built in 1863, was only built in 1961. Before that it was just a path made up of rocks. Explosives were used to create a nice walkable path. You can still see the holes here and there on the route.

Once at the top you have a spectacular view of Albir and in the distance you can also see Altea. In the lighthouse itself there is a free museum that only contains some photos on the walls. You can walk all the way around the building and admire the sea from all sides.

A walk along the coast of Villajoyosa

One of the most scenic routes along the coast with stunning panoramic views of the enviable Marina Baixa.

This path is located between the beach of El Torres in Villajoyosa and the beach of La Cala de Finestrat. It runs along the coast through the local nature and you can decide to start this route from either point. On this occasion, we will start the route from El Torres beach in Villajoyosa, as there is enough opportunity to park the car. El Torres beach is a natural beach of gravel and sand, just in front of a campsite of the same name.

One of the things worth visiting at the beginning of the route is the Sant Josep Tower. It is the largest Roman funerary tower preserved in the Iberian Peninsula. They built it in the middle of the 2nd century AD. and the Generalitat restored it in 2014. In addition, it was the tomb of an unknown but important citizen of Allon (Roman Villajoyosa).

The trail begins with an easy climb and that's when the beautiful views that accompany us for the rest of the journey emerge.

After 2.5 kilometers of route we arrive at the Cala Racó del Conill, a well-known naturist bay.

We continue the path to the north between the island of Benidorm on our right and the Puig Campana on our left.

Hiking to the highest point :

After a while there is a fork and the left path goes straight to La Cala de Finestrat. There they have a beautiful beach that we recommend you visit. The right path from the fork leads to the hill where the Vigía del Agulló watchtower is located. They built this tower in 1530 to protect the coast against the attacks of the Berber pirates. Next to the tower they have made a picnic area and there are spectacular panoramic views. The beaches of Benidorm, the Serra Gelada Nature Reserve, the Serra Bernia and the Peñón de Ifach reveal their beauty from above.

From this point you can descend to La Cala of Finestrat at the foot of the hill and enjoy the beach and the many bars and restaurants. If you'd rather go back, no, check out the viewpoint south of the tower.

From here the path leads to the Cala Racó del Conill and then the same road that we followed on the way there leads back to the beach of El Torres.
